New Delhi: Olympic and world wrestling championship bronze medalist Bajrang Punia met with Interior Minister Amit Shah on Saturday. The Interior Minister met him for the first time after winning bronze at the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. He also won gold at the Commonwealth Games this year in Birmingham.
“I met the country’s illustrious Home Minister, Shri @AmitShah ji, it was great to chat about sports, always gather your blessings, the advice given by him always inspires to do better for the country. Jai Hind Jai Bharat,” Bajrang Punia tweeted after meeting with Interior Minister Amit Shah. Indian ace wrestler and Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia won a bronze medal in the men’s 65kg category at the recent 2022 World Wrestling Championships, beating Puerto Rico’s Sebastian C Rivera in the bronze medal bout. He beat Rivera in the fight by 11-9. The wrestler, who recently won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, scripted a remarkable comeback to win the match. He won based on VPO1-Points and opponent scores.
This is Punia’s fourth medal at the Championships, starting his journey with bronze in 2013. He then won silver at the 2018 Championships and followed that with another bronze in 2019. Now he has four championship medals.
It was India’s second medal at the 2022 World Wrestling Championships with the first medal being won by Vinesh Phogat.
The championships started on September 10 and ended on September 18.
Bajrang Punia landed in Delhi at IGI airport on Tuesday amidst fans who showed up in droves to welcome their hero. Fans flocked to IGI airport accompanied by party music played on dhols and trumpets. They danced to dhol beats while welcoming Bajrang at the airport. (ANI)
