A 14-year-old boy who felt ill after school has been given a ‘devastating’ diagnosis

A boy who started feeling ill after returning to school was shocked to find out he had a life-threatening illness.

Tom, originally from Bromborough, Wirral, and now living in Ellesmere Port, was just 13 when he was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme (GMB) – a fast-growing and aggressive brain tumor with an average survival time of only 12 to 18 months. . When he started feeling intermittently ill in September 2020, Tom’s mother Karen said she decided to return to school after the first national lockdown.

The 47-year-old, who only asked to be referred to by his first name, said: “I contacted doctors a few times. When he was away for school holidays in October, he said that he had double vision.

“He had a doctor’s appointment at the end of October and they said he was fine physically. He suffered from a very bad migraine at the beginning of November, so I contacted the opticians thinking it was his eyes because he was a lot more on the computer.”
