Flights to Puerto Rico have long been on Lehigh Valley International Airport’s wishlist, but now airport officials want to put data behind their marketing to get direct flights to San Juan.
The short survey asks if respondents have family or business interests in Puerto Rico and how often they visit the archipelago. He also asks if a respondent would fly from LVIA to Puerto Rico if there was a competitively priced nonstop flight to San Juan.
“The research and data obtained from this survey are extremely useful when the airport discusses short and long haul opportunities with airlines to provide non-stop service that benefits surrounding communities of ABE,” said the executive director. authority, Tom Stoudt, in a press release. “We want to reinforce the need for a new route by showing that there is strong demand and support from the community.”
Pricing appears to be a key issue for passengers at Hanover Township, Lehigh County Airport.
Low cost carrier Allegiant began serving LVIA in 2005 and has grown in popularity. Allegiant opened a flight base in 2020 at LVIA and has added direct leisure destinations over the years, the most recent being Sarasota, Florida.
For years Puerto Rico has been on the wishlist of destinations, as the valley’s Hispanic population and those with ties to the region continue to grow.
Other requested destinations include Boston, Pittsburgh, Dallas and Austin, an aviation consultant told members of airport authorities three years ago.
