Considered one of the leading golfing destinations in Europe, Golf de l’Empordà cemented that reputation after receiving praise from players who recently participated in two Challenge Tour events on the site.
The popular 36-hole resort in Spain’s Costa Brava region was honored to host the Emporda Challenge from October 14-17, followed closely by the Challenge Costa Brava a week later as the season 2021 is approaching its peak.
The tournaments have attracted a star team with players including Ricardo Gouveia of Portugal, Northern Irishman Michael Hoey and Matteo Manassero – the youngest European Tour winner – all on the fairways of the Emporda Forest Course.
Frenchman Julien Brun took the trophy in the Challenge Emporda with an impressive score of 18 under par, with young New Zealander Daniel Hillier taking top honors at the Challenge Costa Brava – his first ever victory on the European Challenge Tour. Both players were quick to praise the Emporda Golf Resort for its golf and leisure facilities following a recent major upgrade.
As part of the extensive renovations to the Emporda Golf Resort, both courses have undergone significant investments to enhance the golf experience available to members and guests. Significant work has been undertaken, including the reconstruction of all bunkers using the Better Billy Bunker method, a comprehensive deforestation program and the purchase of new greenkeeping equipment to improve the general condition of the tees, fairways and greens.
Hillier said: “The course was excellent. It’s a good mix between a links and a resort course and quite difficult at the same time. Overall it’s just a great place to play and I’m quite happy we had two weeks here.
“The Greens were running pure. You are rewarded for hitting good golf shots and punished for hitting bad ones, which is exactly what it should be.
Located 30 minutes from Girona in the heart of the Costa Brava region, Emporda Golf Club’s impressive facilities include two 18-hole championship courses – Emporda Links and Emporda Forest, both designed by the world-renowned architect Robert von Hagge.
Golfers also enjoyed an enhanced experience in the redesigned clubhouse, with the building’s pro shop, golf reception, and the newly rebranded Terraverda restaurant all given a fresh, contemporary new look.
Far from the fairways, the Emporda Golf hotel has been transformed with a new modern and contemporary look with the rooms, common areas and restaurant redesigned and renovated.
A new restaurant concept has been created in all of the Empordà’s dining rooms, while an outdoor swimming pool has been installed to help guests relax after a hard day on the fairways. In addition, the beach and the Balearic Sea are just five minutes away.
A combination of sunny skies, perfectly manicured fairways, gastronomic excellence and surrounding views of the mountain ranges gives Emporda Golf Resort all the necessary elements for a leisurely golf vacation.
