With the next redlist update due on October 7, some insiders have said the redlist may be further reduced.
That is expected to be announced next week, with just nine countries expected to remain on the red list according to the Telegraph.
Brazil, South Africa and Mexico should all be open to travel without quarantine.
“We expect big reductions from the red list. There may only be nine countries left on the list, ”a Whitehall source told The Telegraph.
A second source quoted by the newspaper confirmed that the red list should be reduced “substantially”.
Hotel quarantine rules were first introduced for high-risk countries with the red, orange and green lists on May 17.
As part of the most recent update, fully vaccinated passengers arriving from ROW destinations will no longer have to take a pre-departure test before returning to the UK.
However, until the end of this month, they still have to take a PCR test two days later.
Unvaccinated passengers will still need to take the test before departure, while a 10-day self-quarantine period has been imposed on all arrivals from ROW countries.
