Haryana government to write to Goa requesting transfer of case to CBI

Goa Police had arrested Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Singh accompanying Phogat, a popular TikTok star from Haryana, in Goa. Phogat, 42, was brought dead to St Anthony’s Hospital in Anjuna in North Goa district on the morning of August 23 from her hotel.

Police said on Friday that Sagwan and Singh allegedly mixed an “unpleasant substance” in water and forced Phogat to drink it while partying at Curlies restaurant on the night of August 22-23, adding that they had been charged with murder. The motive behind Phogat’s alleged murder could be “economic interest”, a senior police officer had said.

Congress on Saturday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the alleged murder of Haryana BJP leader Sonali Phogat, saying the police were trying to cover up the matter. Phogat died in Goa on Tuesday in mysterious circumstances following which two men, including her personal assistant, who had accompanied her to the coastal state, are arrested for murder by state police.

Many politicians said his death was due to a heart attack. But eventually it was revealed that it was a murder. There’s more to this murder than meets the eye and every angle must be considered. These kinds of cases need to be investigated by the CBI to find out the truth,” Goa opposition leader Michael Lobo told PTI.
